5th Sept 2016 Daily Sense with Dr. Kinyanjui Nganga

Good Morning Sense 101 Life Club.

✨We will recap what we learned last Friday the 2nd Sept on Leading Without a Position in the next seven days…

✨Knowing that leadership is not a right but a privilege from followers, we ought to cultivate followership rather than paying for it or punishing non-compliance. External motivation is temporal. True leaders need to cultivate internal motivation. Reinforcements should never replace coaching.

✨Recognizing that your assignment has a shelf life, as a leader, attach people to organizational vision not to a personality. Make yourself increasingly unnecessary. True leaders do not focus on self-preservation. They focus on sealing their legacy in peoples’ lives.

✨Acknowledging that the goal of leadership is not to maintain followers but to produce leaders, focus on succession planning. The real measure of your leadership is the success of your successor. While we teach what we know, we reproduce who we are. We reproduce our kind. We attract who we are. Like begets like.

Who follows you?

✨Appreciating the timeless words of President Nelson Mandela, “True leaders do not seek followers. Followers are attracted by true leaders.”; let us seek to empower not power. For the true measure of leadership is the quality of leaders you develop not how many you trade.

✨Conscious of the fact that our leadership will not be measured by what we leave behind, but by who we leave behind, let us preserve our memories in peoples’ hearts, not on tombstones. Let us ensure that our works outlive us such that our memory cannot be erased from history.

✨Realizing that legacy is preserving our future, not our position, let us seek to serve, not to be served. Let us focus on the next generation not the next position. For true leadership is not measured by how many people serve us, but how many people we serve.

Will you rise up to this leadership challenge?
