Master Yourself, Master Your Enemies

Master Yourself, Master Your Enemies

Did you leave college at the same time yet she is married as you face life alone? Lonely, but you hurt too much to admit…. Is she less qualified than you, yet she is your boss? Is he younger than you yet he has settled his family? Or could he be younger and less experienced and his business seems to be thriving in leaps and bounds…and your business in the same sector and location flopped?

Could you be wondering why others around you seem to prosper, leading a stress-free life….and you, on the other hand, seem to meet obstacles all around you. Seems like everything you touch with your hand meets uncalled for hostility, opposition, resistance, antagonism and setbacks?

And perhaps a preacher told you that these are the trials of a believer…just hold on…sorrows may endure for a night but joy comes in the morning…them that the Lord loves, chastens… AND you found solace, relief and comfort in these words and accepted your plight???

But could be your struggles have nothing to do with the ‘chastening’ of the Lord! But (just) may be you are your own problem. For once, I challenge you in retrospect of your own life to cross examine yourself critically…just in case, you are your own worst enemy, as the saying goes.

Too many times we blame others…then our past…then we look for a scripture to justify our situation. But hardly do we want to tax our imaginations to our individual role in the unfolding of our life stories. Today I humbly put it to you, master yourself; master your enemies. Your enemies are NOT people. Your enemies are your financial struggles, relational crisis, unwanted addictions, lack of peace, career stagnation, business failures and such like.

While hard work, positive attitude, persistence, determination and passion are undeniable requisites for success, by far the greatest asset on your way up is your ability to relate with others. Business is done by people, for people and through people. You can never master people unless and until you learn how to master yourself first. When that day finally dawns when you will master yourself, the arch of your life will curve through the graph of success irrespective of the difficulties along your life journey.

Born in August 15, 1769, Napoléon Bonaparte ruled Europe for 20 years at his will, till his ultimate defeat in the battle of Waterloo, in 1815. Imprisoned, he was exiled by the British in St. Helena, one of the most isolated islands in the world, in Southern Atlantic Ocean and died mysteriously on 5th May, 1821. Driven by greed, pride, lack of self control and the ring of fame and fortune, the French ruler died in unnecessary conquests (just) to show off his might. He conquered the world but he couldn’t conquer himself. He conquers, who conquers himself.

Be in control of yourself and you will be in control of your circumstances. Master yourself and by default, you’ll have mastered your enemies. There are far too many great people who were brought down from splendour to ruins by not being in control of the enemy within. We examine history to learn life lessons since there is nothing new under the sun. Triumphs and failures are a matter of choice. How we think, act, react and manage emotions go a long way in determination of success or failure.

There are times in life when you need someone else to hold your hand and journey with you every step along your way in your quest for self discovery. Someone who can candidly draw an accountability matrix with you on your personal growth and development. Someone who can let you know the areas you need to work on. Someone who can warn you on the areas that can bring you to an assured pit fall. Someone who can help you have a brand new start.

This someone is called a life couch. A mentor. If this article describes you (or part of your life) join me at the Laico Regency Hotel on 4th September 2015 from 6pm to 8pm we begin this journey together by jointly examining “Personality Dramas” in a fun-filled learning environment. What a better way to spend your Friday evening? There’s a cocktail price of 2K and check with 0725215711 or 0722278176 just in case we have some bookings left since we were closing bookings on 20th Aug for logistics purposes.

In case you won’t get a chance this time round due to late bookings, let’s meet on 2nd Oct 2015 as we explore “Gender Differences”. We meet the 1st Friday of every month from 6 to 8pm at Laico Regency. Afterwards I hold round table meetings with smaller groups. For example, this week and next week, I am holding 3 separate round table discussions on “public speaking”; “project financing”; and “government tendering”. I host these round table business meetings at Nairobi Club and, therefore, they are absolutely free for Sense 101 Life Club members.
