Principle 6: Listen to your child

Principle 6: Listen to your child

Children know when you are actively listening and when you are pretending to listen. The greatest gift you can give someone is the purity of your attention.

President Theodore Roosevelt observed, “No one cares how much you know, until they know how much you care.” There is a Turkish Proverb that drills my point home, “If speaking is silver, then listening is gold.”

Why Listen?

i. When you listen; you learn. Everything you say; you already know.

ii. When you listen, you pick up the non-verbal cues (you hear what is not being said).

iii. When you listen, you send a clear signal: I care. There are times children are only seeking a listening ear to vent out their pressures.

Q. Are you a good listener?
